At the end of 1944, two permanent cemeteries were established in Normandy for the burial of Canadian soldiers: one here in Reviers/Bény-sur-Mer and the other in Cintheaux: Bretteville-sur-Laize, south of Caen. The cemetery contains 2,049 graves, most of which are Canadians, 15 airmen of various nationalities, three British soldiers and one French soldier. The central path leads to the Memorial Stone, then to a place of contemplation, the Cross of Sacrifice and finally to the gardener's shelter.
