New running challenges in the area!
🏃♂️The destination is ramping up its sports calendar and inviting running enthusiasts to take on new challenges… or cheer on the runners! This season, two events are set to energize the region and promise wonderful moments of sports: the Marathon des Héros, organized as part of the Foulées de Bayeux, and the 10- and 15-km courses of the Trail des Gens Bons.
The Marathon des Héros invites participants to embark on an adventure that’s both athletic and charitable. In the friendly atmosphere of the Foulées de Bayeux, runners set off to support a cause, cheered on by the crowd and fueled by collective energy. It’s a race where every kilometer counts and where the excitement is shared just as much at the starting line as at the finish line.
For nature lovers and thrill-seekers, the Trail des Gens Bons offers two options: 10 and 15 km. With rolling trails and panoramic views of the region, these routes promise a sporting immersion in the heart of the landscapes that make this destination so charming.

Time for renovation: Sites getting a makeover
The region is undergoing a major transformation! Several iconic sites are undergoing or will undergo major renovation work. Here is an overview of these projects that are shaping the heritage of tomorrow.
Bayeux Tapestry Museum: a metamorphosis in progress
The museum closes in September 2025 for two years of renovation work. Reopening scheduled for October 2027. The aim is to offer visitors a new experience in a brand new museum with modernised scenography and a layout specifically designed to preserve this thousand-year-old masterpiece.
Port-en-Bessin-Huppain: strengthening and beautifying the seafront
Work will begin in January 2026 and be completed by the end of 2027. The maritime structures of Port-en-Bessin, which have been severely tested by the elements, will undergo extensive renovation. Led by the Department, this work aims to secure the town while enhancing the port's heritage and the seafront.
Mondaye Abbey: a restored gem
After four years of restoration, the project is nearing completion. Visitors can now rediscover the fully restored 17th-century abbey church. This spectacular refurbishment has restored this historic site to its former glory.

The D-Day Beaches towards UNESCO
The application for the D-Day beaches to be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site is progressing. Supported by the Normandy Region since 2018, it has been under review since spring 2025. An inspection is scheduled for September. While awaiting the decision, expected in summer 2026, the Region and the memorial sites are actively promoting this initiative.

Take a bike ride along the Scenic Route 1944!
Set off on the Scenic Route 1944: a 51-km bike ride between Arromanches and Grandcamp-Maisy, following in the footsteps of D-Day. This iconic one-way route combines spectacular views from the Bessin cliffs with sites full of history. Accessible to everyone, you can explore it on your own… or with a guide! For your return trip, several solutions are available: LocVélo drops you off and picks you up, Petite Reine guides you along the entire route, the Ligne Estivale 125 transports you and your bikes upon reservation, and the Taxis Vélo handle your transfers, bikes included, in both directions.
