Time for renovation: Sites getting a makeover
The region is undergoing a major transformation! Several iconic sites are undergoing or will undergo major renovation work. Here is an overview of these projects that are shaping the heritage of tomorrow.
Bayeux Tapestry Museum: a metamorphosis in progress
The museum closes in September 2025 for two years of renovation work. Reopening scheduled for October 2027. The aim is to offer visitors a new experience in a brand new museum with modernised scenography and a layout specifically designed to preserve this thousand-year-old masterpiece.
Port-en-Bessin-Huppain: strengthening and beautifying the seafront
Work will begin in January 2026 and be completed by the end of 2027. The maritime structures of Port-en-Bessin, which have been severely tested by the elements, will undergo extensive renovation. Led by the Department, this work aims to secure the town while enhancing the port's heritage and the seafront.
Mondaye Abbey: a restored gem
After four years of restoration, the project is nearing completion. Visitors can now rediscover the fully restored 17th-century abbey church. This spectacular refurbishment has restored this historic site to its former glory.

The D-Day Beaches towards UNESCO
The application for the D-Day beaches to be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site is progressing. Supported by the Normandy Region since 2018, it has been under review since spring 2025. An inspection is scheduled for September. While awaiting the decision, expected in summer 2026, the Region and the memorial sites are actively promoting this initiative.

A new chapter for the Tapestry Museum
The countdown has begun for the Tapestry Museum!
There are still 2 months to (re)discover the work before the site is closed for works from 1 September 2025. In October 2027, the year of the millennium, there will be a new museum with an optimised presentation and a completely redesigned scenography!
