"It is because the bicycle is a remarkable device for perceiving the world that cycle tourism is a source of perpetual enrichment." Jacques Vicart
Ready for a 27km loop through the Bayeux countryside?
The start is in Bayeux, near the Ornano car park. Follow the by-pass to Liberty Alley for an immersion in the heart of the D-Day. To your right is the Battle of Normandy Memorial Museum, then the War Reporters Memorial, and to your left the British Military Cemetery.
Find the start of loop n°10 via the "chemin des Marettes" and ride up the Aure valley to the Abbaye de Mondaye, a nugget in the middle of Bayeux hinterland.
We park the bikes. Halfway through our journey, a stop is needed to enjoy this beautiful 18th century classic! And why not have a picnic? Follow the Premonstratensian canon who will show you around his home during the guided tours offered every Sunday afternoon and every day in the summer.
It's time to set off again. As you pedal along, the landscape unfolds with a remarkable built heritage, fortified farms, manor houses with towers.... Have you spotted the panels of the heritage tour along the route?
The return journey starts at the Ellon stud farm, in the heart of Normandy's horse country. Its lush green pastures are home to superb racehorses!
Return to Bayeux and to stretch your legs after this beautiful ride, enjoy the nature walk along the river to the sensitive natural area on the banks of the Aure. Listen out for frogs croaking! You end your day in the heart of a nature trail preserved by the department for its exceptional fauna and flora.
