Bayeux - CANCELLED

Bayeux Medieval Festival 2020

Come to the feast an entire weekend in Bayeux !

A decision that is difficult to make but which, in the current context, seems inevitable. A difficult decision to announce as this event is dear to us, dear to you. But a reasonable decision following the last announcements of the President of the Republic.

The budgetary consequences that already exist in the face of this unprecedented crisis confirm this choice. We are aware of the disappointment of the tens of thousands of visitors faithful to this Bayeusain event. We also know the difficulties created for the many associations that thanks to the Medieval enjoy a considerable financial boost for the good management of their structure. Finally, we would like to affirm our support for all the artisans and artists who each year make the Medieval more beautiful. In this respect, the City of Bayeux will ensure that professional companies maintain part of the remuneration initially provided for.
The Medieval, for the first time in their history, are cancelled. But, already, the elected officials of the city of #Bayeux as well as the entire team of the cultural action department are working on the 35th edition scheduled for July 2021. An anniversary that will be celebrated as it should be, be sure!
More than ever, we will find ourselves in the heart of our beautiful city to share this incomparable holiday weekend.
In the meantime, we must all act to combat the spread of the virus, which will never be justified by our commitment to you.
Take care of yourself”
Patrick Gomont, Mayor of Bayeux and David Lemaresquier Deputy Mayor in charge of cultural action and community life.

Each year, Bayeux offers its heritage as the showcase for the Medieval festival! This year the festival will take place from July 3 to 5, 2020.

As usual, the popular medieval market will take place around the cathedral. Some 150 exhibitors from France and Europe will exhibit their items of arts and crafts with jewellery, dolls, sculptures, and pottery.

Stonemasons will set up a workshop.  There will also be many street performers and plenty of taverns for the amusement of visitors! The medieval mass will be celebrated in the medieval fashion in the Cathedral, emptied of its chairs for the occasion, on the Sunday morning at 10 am.

As for the great parade, still very much awaited, it will gather more than 500 participants! The animals will obviously be part of it!

Medieval book fair – Each year the medieval book fair is held on the Place de Gaulle. This is the occasion for readers to meet the authors of  books set in the Middle Ages.

For children, medieval games and animations will be proposed in the courtyard of the Deanery!
