The European Union, the French State, the Conservatoire du littoral, the Normandy Region, the Calvados Department, Bayeux Intercom and the Municipality of Longues-sur-Mer were all involved in the redevelopment of the Longues-sur-Mer Battery site. Perched on the cliffs overlooking all the D-Day beaches, the German battery at Longues-sur-Mer played a strategic role during the Allied landings on 6 June 1944. Four casemates - still fitted with their original guns - and a fire-control post, all listed as Historic Monuments, make up this major structure of the Atlantic Wall. Visitors can explore the Longues-sur-Mer battery at their leisure via an interpretive trail. Please note: there are no rubbish bins on site. "Bring your rubbish with you, and take it away with you!"
