2019 marks the 75th anniversary of DDay Landings, on this occasion WWII major sites of Bayeux Intercom territory are revealed thanks to an exceptional program of guided tours!

From Occupation to Liberation

From 3 to 10 June 2019 (except 6 June) Monday to Friday

Site of an important German radar station, the small fishing village suffered the Occupation’s restrictions. Liberated by the British on 6 June 1944, it became the theatre of one of the Allies’ greatest military engineering achievements: Port Winston.


Tours FR/GB: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.  –  4 p.m. Duration: 1hr 30 mins.

Bayeux, the unscathed: from the Occupation to the speech of general de Gaulle

From 3 to 14 June 2019 (except 6 June) Monday to Friday

Spared from war destructions, Bayeux was chosen by General de Gaulle for his famous speech on 14 June 1944. Find out about the inhabitants’ daily life through anecdotes, archive pictures and monuments and get a feel for the atmosphere of the city in 1944.

Guided tours to the British cemetery

– Friday 7 and from Tuesday 11 to Friday 14 June 2019

Bayeux is home to the largest British WWII cemetery in France, run by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. The tour takes visitors to the heart of Liberty Alley, and includes the Memorial, erected on the other side of the By-pass in honour of the soldiers whose bodies were never found.

Abbey of Saint-Martin de Mondaye guided tours

From 2 to 30 June 2019 Sunday only

This abbey was the first to be liberated in France by the allied troops. The events of 1944, the community’s daily life under the German Occupation and the fascinating story of the abbey are revealed during a tour peppered with anecdotes.

The German gun battery

From 30 May to 1st September 2019 : guided tours are available every day.

Key element of the Atlantic Wall, the battery at Longues sur Mer included a range-finding post and four casemates, each housing a 150-mm gun.It was built on a clifftop overlooking the English Channel. In the heart of the Allied assault sector, it played a strategic role during the Normandy Landings on June 6th 1944.

The liberation of Port-en-Bessin in 1944

From 3rd to 10 June 2019 (except 6, 7 and 9 June).

Port-en-Bessin – a highly strategic site, located between the beaches of Gold and Omaha – was liberated by the 47 Royal Marine Commando. Between June and October 1944, it became the Landing beaches’ oil terminal and landed fuel for the allied forces.
