Bayeux - December 2017
The Bayeux Tapestry presented in its original showcase...
For the occasion of the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings and the coronation of William the Conqueror in England, the tourist office of Bayeux Intercom propose a spectacular winter event with “William’s Cathedral”, set in the magnificent cathedral of Bayeux. Falling within the regional scope on the theme of Medieval Normandy, this unique show has been created by the company Spectaculaires, Allumeurs d’images, who also created the shows “Rendez-vous à la cathédrale” in Bayeux, and “Eclats d’Aure” at the abbey of Mondaye.
“The Bayeux Tapestry – a masterpiece of the 11th Century – will be presented in digital form in its original showcase : the cathedral of Bayeux”
In the magnificent cathedral of Bayeux, the nave and the choir (axial chapel) will be highlighted, each evoking a theme.
> In the nave, a spectacular display of the Bayeux Tapestry, presented in its original setting, thanks to cutting-edge technology. The show will include a historical introduction of the Conqueror’s epic adventure narrated by Odo, Bishop of Bayeux and half brother of William. On either side of the nave, on the entire length of the balustrade – where it was probably displayed for the first time – a dynamic projection of the Bayeux Tapestry and the highlighting of architectural details of the nave; two giant screens 1,80 metres high by 30 metres long !
> In the choir (axial chapel), the stained glass windows and details of the architecture will be highlighted; an invitation to contemplate and meditate. Projection and lights on the theme of the Elevation.
> Projections will be accompanied by apt soundtracks.
“Dynamic and spectacular, an exhibition of a new genre”
